Schedule an Advising Appointment

The AAPC offers in-person, individual advising appointments. Virtual individual advising appointments are available on a first-come, first-served limited basis.  Appointments can be made through Appointment Manager.

First-Year And First-Semester Transfer Students—NOT declared AND assigned to the AAPC

Students are required to meet with an academic advisor in the Academic Advising and Planning Center (AAPC) before you register for classes next semester by having an individual advising appointment.

Students must also complete their OAKS advising module in addition to their mandatory academic advising appointment in order to satisfy their Registration Hold. Students can check their email for instructions from the AAPC.

First-Year Students—declared AND assigned to the AAPC

If a student’s major department does not require mandatory advising, they WILL be required to meet with an advisor through the AAPC by having an individual advising appointment

Students must also complete their OAKS advising module in addition to their mandatory academic advising appointment in order to satisfy their Registration Hold. Students can check their email for instructions from the AAPC.

Students who are not sure if their major requires mandatory advising can email their major advisor or AAPC advisor and ask.

Second-Year Students NOT declared AND assigned to the AAPC

Students are not required to meet with their assigned AAPC advisor. However, we encourage all students to meet with their advisor to continue the development of an academic plan and prioritize declaring a major. Students can schedule an appointment with their assigned AAPC advisor online through the Appointment Manager via the Appointments Tile in MyPortal, or call our office at 843-953-5981. After making an appointment, an email confirmation will be sent to the student’s cofc email address indicating the appointment has been secured.

You must declare your major if you meet the following criteria:

You have earned 45 or more credit hours in residence at the College of Charleston

OR

You are a transfer student who has a total of 45 or more overall earned credit hours

AND

You are in progress toward junior rank (approaching 60 credit hours) this semester.

Second-Year Students declared and NOT assigned to the AAPC

Declared students beyond their first year at the College will meet with their major faculty advisor.  Their name and information can be found in Degree Works or in My Profile in MyPortal.

Need to Cancel an Advising Appointment?

We recognize situations arise that may create a need to reschedule or cancel an advising appointment. To cancel your advising appointment, you can (1) logon to Appointment Manager and click "Go to My Appointments", (2) follow the cancellation link provided in the appointment confirmation email you received when you scheduled your appointment, or (3) call the Academic Advising and Planning Center: 843.953.5981. A two-hour prior notification is requested. Reciprocal courtesy will be extended to students should advisors need to cancel.

Attendance Policy

If you do not cancel your appointment online or notify the office in advance that you are unable to keep your appointment, your absence will be noted as a "no-show". During peak advising periods, appointment times are at a premium. After two no-shows, you will not be able to schedule an appointment until after the last Registration Entry Time.
